Herbert Fairey became a plumber at the age of 18 in 1929,working for Newmans of West Bar.He rented his first plumbing shop on Dart Square-opposite Weston Park. By the end of the Second World War Herbert opened new premises on Crookesmoor Road where the business remained for over 20 years.During that time he employed various plumbers including his cousin Harold Sissons.Herberts wife Mary joined the company and did the book keeping.In the late forties a new apprentice joined the company-Gordon Murfin.Although Gordon only worked for Herbert for seven years before joining up with the army,he did return in 1983 and worked until his retirement in 1996.In 1950 on leaving school,Herbert's son Trevor joined the company before taking the reins in the 1970's.Trevor also qualified as a plumber but by the late sixties Fairey's concentrated on selling.In the mid sixties Herbert Faireys moved from Crookesmoor road to premises at 40 Barber Road.The tenure at this address was short as bigger premises were needed resulting in a move across the road to numbers 61 to 65-three shop fronts which had been a laundry and other businesses including a Sarsaparilla bar in the fifties.In 1979 Trevor's oldest son Richard O'Connor joined the company.Trevor's other two sons joined in he eighties but have since left the company.Herbert remained part of the empire he had started until his passing in 1989.The showroom remained at Barber Road until 2007 when Herbert Fairey & Son moved to more spacious premises on Penistone Road where they are at the present time.As a family business Herbert Fairey & Son take great care in assuring our customers get the best attention-without any pressure from our sales team.Our showroom has around twenty complete suites on display beginning as low as £250 for a full suite, as well as almost the same amount of shower enclosures on show by leading manufacturers such as Merlyn,Twyfords,Manhattan,Roman,April &Matki.Herbert Faireys also have a large range of tiles on display aswell as the new Showerwall panelling.We are competitive on all aspects of bathrooms and will endeavour to beat any genuine quote..We have a long-standing team of recommended fitters who will help you plan and design your new bathroom,shower room or wetroom.We also have an excellent after sales service should there be a problem with anything connected to your new purchase.Should your choice be out of your price range we offer a finance package with a leading lending company.We are open seven days a week and do an on-line ordering service-sometimes delivered straight from the manufacturer-should you choose to buy from the comfort of your own home.Give Herbert Fairey & Son a visit or call 01142347874.Remember we are big enough to cope but small enough to care.
